THE
MORTON CENTER
The Morton Center was established April 1, 1984 by co-founders Jane Morton Norton and John P. Walsh. The Center was named in memory of Mrs. Norton’s brother, Senator Thruston Morton. At present, there is a clinical staff of 25, with a client base of 1500 + and a 26 member Board of Directors.
In 1989, the Center established an Intensive Outpatient Program in partnership with Our Lady of Peace Hospital. The Center had recognized the need for an intensive treatment program for chemical dependency treatment based on a rapidly increasing population with alcohol or chemical dependency abuse problems. In 1990, the program moved to The Morton Center and remains our highest level of treatment. This program was established in the Lexington facility that same year.
In 1993, the Center began a relationship with the Impaired Physicians Program, Kentucky Physicians Health Foundation, to assess and treat physicians in the state for chemical dependency. Additional relationships have been developed with the Kentucky Board of Nursing, the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy, the Kentucky Board of Physical Therapy, the Kentucky Board of Dentistry and the Kentucky Bar Association. The Center provides assessments, treatment and continued monitoring as required.
From 1984 until his retirement in 2007, Mr. Walsh served as The Morton Center’s Chief Executive Officer. Upon his retirement, he was succeeded by Jennifer C. Stern in that position. |
