Churchill
Downs' Triple Crown Room
A crowd of 270 donors, friends and staff members gathered at Churchill Downs
on Thursday, October 21, 2004 to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of The Morton
Center. The event, held in the Triple Crown Room on the track's newly
renovated fifth floor, honored the accomplishments of the center and paid
tribute to those who have made its success possible.
Rick Pitino, head men's basketball coach at the University of Louisville,
(shown here with The Morton Center's CEO, John Walsh) gave the keynote address,
praising those who had helped The Morton Center toward its success and reminded
the audience of the importance of working together toward a fulfilling goal.
Tom Meeker,
President
and CEO, Churchill
Downs, Inc. served as Master of Ceremonies for the evening
Mr. Walsh capped the evening with a moving account of The Morton Center's
history, it's struggles and it's successes.
Proceeds from
the event go toward subsidizing the treatment
of individuals and their families who suffer for alcoholism and other chemical
addictions but are unable to pay for treatment. In its 20 year history, The
Morton Center has raised over $4.3 million in subsidies for it's clients.
Subsidizing care has been a central part of The Morton Center's mission, one
that makes it unique among area treatment centers.
