OUR PHILOSOPHY

The creative process of art-making improves and enhances the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of individuals of all ages. Mindfulness practices help children to increase confidence, cope with stress, and handle difficult situations. Combining creative techniques and mindfulness practices nurtures resilience. This group will provide a way to help children name feelings, separate themselves from the problem, and develop language to describe their family system.

Services for Children Affected by Substance Abuse

The Morton Center is the only outpatient treatment program in Kentucky focusing on the whole family, including children. Children living in homes where substance abuse is prevalent face unique challenges. They often experience trauma, instability, and emotional distress, which can have long-lasting effects on their well-being. Our goal is to break the cycle of addiction and provide children with the tools to lead a positive and fulfilling life.

Expressive/art therapy has been used for years as part of our integrated program of treatment. Our therapists have helped hundreds of children deal with addiction in their families.

Children’s Education and Therapy Services

For children who have been affected by chemically dependent family members, this program uses sand tray, play, and art therapy informed services to help the children name feelings, separate themselves from the problem, and develop language to describe their family issues.

Currently, informed services can be provided in person, where individuals can receive compassionate and individualized support.
